Leadership, Legacy, and the Future of Rockwall: A Conversation with Jim Duquette

Between Two Doors Podcast with Nate Carver

When people think about choosing a Realtor, they often focus on experience, market knowledge, or negotiation skills. While those qualities certainly matter, the best real estate professionals bring something even more valuable to the table: character.

That was immediately evident during my conversation with Jim Duquette, Team Leader at Keller Williams Rockwall and co-owner of the Patty Turner Group.

With nearly two decades of experience helping families buy and sell homes throughout Rockwall and North Texas, Jim has learned that success isn’t about avoiding challenges—it’s about learning how to navigate them with confidence, perspective, and purpose.

From Politics to Real Estate

Jim’s career didn’t begin in real estate.

After graduating from Hardin-Simmons University with a degree in marketing, he worked in political campaigns, eventually serving as the Texas marketing director for a presidential campaign. That experience introduced him to leadership, strategic thinking, fundraising, and working alongside influential leaders across Texas.

Those lessons still influence how he serves clients today.

Instead of reacting emotionally to every market shift, Jim focuses on understanding people, asking better questions, and helping clients make informed decisions.

Every Market Is Challenging

One of my favorite moments from our conversation came when Jim shared his perspective on real estate markets.

Rather than describing markets as “good” or “bad,” he explained that every market simply presents different challenges.

He entered real estate in 2008 during one of the most difficult housing markets in modern history. Because he didn’t know any different, he simply got to work.

That mindset continues to shape his leadership today.

Instead of waiting for ideal market conditions, Jim believes successful agents—and successful buyers and sellers—adapt to the opportunities in front of them.

Relationships Will Always Matter

Artificial intelligence was another major topic during our conversation.

Like many industry leaders, Jim is embracing AI to improve efficiency and enhance the client experience. His team is exploring ways technology can provide faster feedback, streamline communication, and improve customer service.

But he was equally clear about something technology will never replace:

Relationships.

Buying or selling a home is one of the largest financial and emotional decisions most families will ever make.

Technology can provide information.

People provide trust.

That’s why Jim believes the future belongs to professionals who combine technology with genuine human connection.

Building More Than a Business

Over the years, Jim has helped grow the Patty Turner Group into one of the top-performing real estate teams in the Keller Williams region.

Yet, when asked about success, he didn’t immediately talk about production numbers.

He talked about leadership.

He talked about coaching.

He talked about helping other agents build meaningful careers.

One lesson particularly resonated with me.

Jim cautioned against always having a “Plan B.”

His philosophy is simple:

When you’re fully committed to your mission, you stop looking for exits and start finding solutions.

It’s a mindset that has helped him grow through changing markets and uncertain times.

A Community Worth Calling Home

As someone who has lived in Rockwall for most of his life, Jim offered a unique perspective on why so many families continue choosing the area.

Rockwall offers an exceptional quality of life with:

  • Beautiful lakefront living
  • Golf-course communities
  • Expanding new-home neighborhoods
  • Easy access to the Dallas metroplex
  • Continued economic growth
  • Strong schools and a vibrant community

With new infrastructure projects and continued development throughout North Texas, Jim believes the area’s future is incredibly bright.

Legacy Begins at Home

Toward the end of our conversation, we shifted away from real estate and talked about something even more important: legacy.

As a husband and father of three boys, Jim shared how his definition of success has changed over the years.

Early in his career, success meant proving people wrong.

Today, it means something much deeper.

His goal is to become a pillar in his family, his church, his community, and his profession.

It’s a reminder that while homes are important, the lives built inside them matter even more.

Looking Beyond the “Monster Under the Bed”

Jim closed our conversation with advice that applies to anyone—not just Realtors.

He encouraged listeners to identify the fears that hold them back, what he calls “the monster under the bed.”

Often, the greatest obstacle isn’t the market.

It isn’t interest rates.

It isn’t uncertainty.

It’s the story we tell ourselves about why we can’t move forward.

Once we identify those fears, we can begin replacing them with facts, confidence, and action.

Thinking About Moving to Rockwall?

Whether you’re relocating to North Texas, buying your first home, upgrading to a larger home, or preparing to sell, working with an experienced local expert can make all the difference.

Jim Duquette combines nearly two decades of market knowledge with a leadership mindset and a genuine passion for serving families throughout Rockwall and the surrounding communities.
