From Restaurants to Real Estate: Preston’s Journey

Before real estate, Preston spent 15 years in the restaurant industry with dreams of owning his own restaurant. However, when COVID-19 shut down the industry, he had the time to reassess his career goals.

After researching real estate and development, he realized there were three ways to get into the field: being born into it, going to school for it, or building relationships and learning through experience. He chose the last option and dove headfirst into the real estate world, quickly making a name for himself in North Texas.

Today, he is the Treasurer for the Greater Texoma Association of Realtors and on track to become its President in just a few years.

A Strong Start in Real Estate

Preston’s first real estate deal was a game-changer. Within three months, he closed two transactions, proving to himself that he could make a successful career in real estate. That moment of handing the keys to a happy client solidified his passion for the business.

Specialties: First-Time Homebuyers & Downsizers

Preston focuses on two key markets:

  1. First-Time Homebuyers – He loves guiding new buyers through the process, especially those who think they can’t afford a home. He educates them on loan programs, down payment assistance, and other options to make homeownership a reality.

  2. Downsizers – Many of his clients are looking to move out of large family homes into something more manageable. He helps them navigate the emotional and financial aspects of selling a home filled with memories and finding the perfect new place.

A Wild Real Estate Story: The Five-Month Closing Nightmare

One of the most frustrating transactions Preston experienced involved a multi-generational property inheritance gone wrong. Family members had inherited a house from their grandparents and later deeded it to an aunt. However, after multiple deaths in the family, the ownership became unclear.

Despite an attorney’s assurance that everything was fine, the deal hit major legal roadblocks, delaying the closing for five months. This experience taught Preston an important lesson: always get a second opinion, even from an attorney!

Life Outside of Real Estate

When Preston isn’t closing deals, he’s spending time with his three sons, who are active in multiple sports. Between football, basketball, baseball, and soccer, there’s always a game or practice to attend.

As a huge travel enthusiast, Preston loves exploring new places—something he inherited from his mother, a travel agent. Even if it’s just a short road trip, he believes there’s always something new to see and experience.

Sports and Family Rivalries

Growing up in Arizona and now living in Texas, Preston is a fan of the Cardinals and Suns, while his wife is a diehard Cowboys fan. He enjoys friendly rivalries with his in-laws, often sending them memes poking fun at the Cowboys.

Advice for Downsizers

For homeowners looking to downsize, Preston’s biggest piece of advice is to manage expectations. While sentimental value is priceless, buyers won’t pay extra for memories. He helps his clients focus on what’s important: selling at the right price and transitioning into a more manageable home that better suits their current needs.
